Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the SubLingo browser extension and related services (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

SubLingo is a browser extension that provides real-time subtitle translation, vocabulary building, and language learning tools while you watch videos on supported platforms (YouTube, Netflix, and other HTML5 video players). The Service is available in a free tier and a paid Premium tier.

3. Accounts

Some features require you to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use.

4. Free and Premium Tiers

Free Tier. The free tier provides access to basic features with certain limitations (e.g., limited translations per day). We reserve the right to modify free tier limits at any time.

Premium Tier. Premium subscriptions unlock additional features including unlimited translations, cloud sync, and advanced vocabulary tools. Premium is available as a monthly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.

5. Payments & Billing

Premium subscriptions are processed through LemonSqueezy. By subscribing, you agree to their terms of service. All prices are in USD unless otherwise stated.

• Monthly subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
• Lifetime purchases provide permanent access to Premium features as they exist at the time of purchase and any future updates.
• Refunds. All sales are final. No refunds will be issued for Premium subscriptions or lifetime purchases.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the extension
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
• Use automated tools to abuse the translation service or exceed reasonable usage limits
• Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the Service without our written consent
• Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, and branding, is owned by SubLingo and protected by intellectual property laws. Your use of the Service does not grant you ownership of any intellectual property rights in the Service or its content.

Vocabulary data you create belongs to you. You retain ownership of any content you produce using the Service (e.g., exported Anki decks).

8. Third-Party Content & Platforms

SubLingo interacts with third-party video platforms (YouTube, Netflix, etc.). We are not affiliated with these platforms, and your use of them is governed by their respective terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability or content of third-party services.

Subtitle content displayed through SubLingo is sourced from the video platforms and their content providers. SubLingo does not claim ownership of this content.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee that translations will be accurate, complete, or error-free. Machine translations are provided for learning purposes and should not be relied upon for professional or critical applications.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SubLingo and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, regardless of the theory of liability.

Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $100 USD, whichever is greater.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms or for any other reason at our sole discretion. You may stop using the Service and delete the extension at any time.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, binding arbitration.
