SubLingo ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the SubLingo browser extension and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using SubLingo, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information. If you create an account or subscribe to Premium, we collect:

• Email address
• Authentication provider information (e.g., if you sign in via GitHub or Google)
• Subscription and payment status (processed by LemonSqueezy; we do not store credit card numbers)

Usage Data. We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics such as:

• Number of translations performed
• Languages selected
• Feature usage patterns

Vocabulary Data. Words and phrases you save to your vocabulary list are stored locally on your device by default. If you enable cloud sync (Premium feature), this data is stored on our servers and synced across your devices.

Extension Settings. Your preferences (language pair, subtitle style, disabled sites) are stored locally via Chrome's storage APIs and optionally synced across your browser instances using Chrome's built-in sync.

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect or store the content of videos you watch
• We do not track your browsing history or the URLs you visit
• We do not collect or store subtitle content beyond what is needed for real-time translation
• We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the Service, including real-time subtitle translation
• To manage your account and subscription
• To sync your vocabulary and settings across devices (if enabled)
• To improve and optimize the Service
• To communicate with you about updates, support, or changes to the Service

Data Storage & Security

Most data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage APIs. Cloud-synced data (for Premium users) is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase, with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, but no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-Party Services

SubLingo may interact with the following third-party services:

• Translation APIs — Subtitle text is sent to translation services to provide real-time translations. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.
• LemonSqueezy — Handles payment processing for Premium subscriptions. Their privacy policy governs payment data.
• Supabase — Provides authentication and cloud storage for Premium features.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data and account
• Export your vocabulary data at any time
• Opt out of cloud sync and keep all data local

Children's Privacy

SubLingo is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
